Finding Your Life's Purpose

Last night, we watched Eckhart Tolle's new dvd entitled Finding Your Life's Purpose. We laughed and laughed...Eckhart was very funny. We wish that we could be in two places at once in order to hear Eckhart speak in Toronto at Roy Thompson Hall on January 30th(http://www.eckharttolle.com/eckharttolle-events2009). Kim Eng will conduct sessions on Saturday Janurary 31st at the Zen Buddhist Hall on College St. and Moni and Tomas of Vancouver will be doing workshops in Toronto on December 5, 6 & 7th (http://www.livingpresence.ca/schedule.html#toronto2).

Life on the hard...

This is what life looks like on the hard these days in Indiantown FL. Dave cleaned and polished the hull, sanded the bottom and installed a thru-hull among other things. I transported things from our locker to the boat, cleaned items related to the galley, and continued the process of finding places for everything which is no easy feat. There was a lovely Caribbean Night here at the marina last night where we caught up with friends we'd met over the past years cruising.

We found the palm trees...

Rusty and I searched for palm trees for 900 miles on Tuesday as we drove south in a rented van following Dave in a Toronto Drive-Away car through state after state of stormy weather. We arrived at Dave's brother and sister-in-law's in Jacksonville FL well after dark but sure enough, yesterday when we awoke, palm trees surrounded us. And as we drove south to Miami to deliver the Drive-Away car last evening, we found mangrove swamps...we're home!
This morning, we're headed to Hippocrates to pick up our six-month's worth of supplements. Then it's back to the boat to clean it well enough to be able to sleep on it this evening. We opened it yesterday for a few minutes to let the chemicals escape.
What have we been eating en route? E3-Live Brain-On and ReNew Me!, Spiralina from Kona Hawaii, freshly picked grapefruit(!), Ambrosia apples, celery, carrots, kale, almonds, raisins, hemp seed, spiralized zucchini with marinara sauce and dehydrated pears. Not too bad...now if I can be more concious of Being.

What have I been listening to? Eckhart Tolle's Practising the Power of Now. It's a fabulous book that I highly recommend as it gives very precise explanations with regard to practising concepts introduced and referred to in other books by Eckhart Tolle.

Reducing Our Collective Footprint on The Earth by 85%

The weekend was amazing! On Saturday evening, we heard Dr. Gabriel Cousens speak once again, this time in Georgetown thanks to the efforts of Susan Wilson. Gabriel reminded us that we could reduce our collective footprint on The Earth by 85% if everyone were to adopt a vegan lifestyle. And it seems like such an effortless means of saving the planet and humanity...
Susan, an RNCP, is well on the way to helping to make this happen in her area. She's now a certified Whole Organic Living Chef and ready to deliver meals to your doorstep (http://www.healthenut.ca/). .
Meanwhile, I've doing better on the homefront with regards to juicing. This summer, it was difficult for me to drink the wheatgrass and green juices made from dark greens such as collard leaves, kale, dandelion and the like that I lived on a year ago. Lately, I've had success by incorporating celery, cucumbers and an apple back into them. I feel so much better, being back on the program.
Yesterday, we attended the 2008 Whole Life Expo(http://www.wholelifecanada.com/) at The Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto. Gabriel spoke on 'Individualizing One's Diet' as outlined in his book Conscious Eating, and then on Curing Diabetes in 30 Days. We heard him speak on the latter subject three times in a four-day period and each time, we came away with pages of notes pertaining to new information based on extensive scientific research. I can't begin to tell you how much we learnt including the fact that everyone needs to take a B12 supplement regardless of whether or not they're vegan.
After the show, we had dinner with friends at Rawlicious. It felt like an impromtu 'bon voyage' party!
This morning, we left home. I'm writing this from what seems like our home away from home - the motel room in which we left our six month's worth of things in Pennsylvania. On Saturday, I registered with various raw meet-up groups in Florida and what seems ironic is that after braving a near white-out in the snow-belt on our way here this morning, I received multiple e-mail notices with regards to meet-ups in the coming weeks including one on a beach in Fort Lauderdale this Sunday with Paul Nison...ask and you receive. The adventure continues...

Gabriel Cousens on Tour, More Eckhart Tolle and Travel Plans...

I attended a fabulous lecture last evening by Dr. Gabriel Cousens based on his book entitled There Is A Cure For Diabetes and the film released earlier this year entitled Raw for 30 Days which is based on his work at The Tree of Life(www.treeoflife.nu)in Patagonia, Arizona. Gabriel has a full schedule (see http://www.upayanaturals.com/Upcoming_Events_s/34.htm) while in Toronto including two at The Whole Life Expo (http://www.wholelifecanada.com/speakers.php?dayid=3) on Sunday at 11:15am and 1:45pm. I very much appreciate this rare opportunity to hear Gabriel speak in person. Any expectations I had were exceeded. And I met a woman doing her Master's degree with Gabriel who actually lives near us...amazing!

I've been listening to Eckhart Tolle's audiobook entitled Gateways to Now. He describes three "gateways": 1)the gateway of the inner body; 2)the gateway of silence; and 3)the gateway of acceptance.

On a form level, I'm very much enjoying my walks each morning but snow is forecast for Sunday and Monday and the ocean calls! Our plans are to head South again on Monday with a Toronto Drive-Away car and a rented van in order to transport the things that are currently in a motel room in Pennsylvania. Our vehicle is being towed back to Canada to be repaired. Getting parts in the US was an issue because it was never sold there. Dave hopes to get it back when he flies home for a week in January to visit his Mother and my Dad.

Avoiding the 'suchness' of the moment...

Eckhart Tolle speaks of being with the 'suchness' of the moment, listening for the silence amidst the "noise", and experiencing consciousness as a result of doing so. In Stillness Speaks, he writes...
"Whenever you are immersed in compulsive thinking, you are avoiding what is. You don't want to be where you are. Here, Now."
Dogmas - religious, political, scientific - arise out of the erroneous belief that thought can encapsulate reality or the truth. Dogmas are collective conceptual prisons. And the strange thing is that people love their prison cells because they give them a sense of security and a false sense of "I know."
Nothing has inflicted more suffering on humanity than its dogmas. It is true that every dogma crumbles sooner or later, because reality will eventually disclose its falseness; however, unless the basic delusion of it is seen for what it is, it will be replaced by others.
What is this basic delusion? Identification with thought.
Spiritual awakening is awakening from the dream of thought.
The realm of consciousness is much vaster than thought can grasp. When you no longer believe everything you think, you step out of thought and see clearly that the thinker is not who you are.
The mind exists in a state of "not enough" and so is always greedy for more. When you are identified with mind, you get bored and restless very easily. Boredom means the mind is hungry for more stimulus, more food for thought, and its hunger is not being satisfied.
When you feel bored, you can satisfy the mind's hunger by picking up a magazine, making a phone call, switching on the TV, surfing the web, going shopping, or - and this is not uncommon - transferring the mental sense of lack and its need for more to the body and satisfy it briefly by ingesting more food.
Or you can stay bored and restless and observe what it feels like to be bored and restless. As you bring awareness to the feeling, there is suddenly some space and stillness around it, as it were. A little at first, but as the sense of inner space grows, the feeling of boredom will begin to diminish in intensity and significance. So even boredom can teach you who you are and who you are not.
You discover that a "bored person" is not who you are. Boredom is simply a conditioned energy movement within you. Neither are you an angry, sad, or fearful person. Boredom, anger, sadness, or fear are not "yours," not personal. They are conditions of the human mind. They come and go.
Nothing that comes and goes is you.
"I am bored." Who knows this?
"I am angry." Who knows this?
You are the knowing, not the condition that is known."

I'm trying to laugh as I think back to my compulsive behaviour at Saturday evening's raw potluck. It was a test. Smile. Here's the recipe for our favourite salad dressing that we enjoyed over organic collards, mustard greens, red and green kale, dinosaur kale and leeks.
1 cup cold pressed oil (I used Sequel's Vega Oil Blend)
1/4 cup or less apple cider vinegar with 'mother'
1/2 cup or more freshly squeezed orange juice
2 Tablespoons or more organic Dijon mustard
1/2 cup or less yacon syrup, agave nectar or raw honey
freshly ground pepper

Brilliance...

"Just as water can be solid, liquid, or gaseous, consciousness can be seen to be "frozen" as physical matter, "liquid" as mind and thought, or formless as pure consciousness." Eckhart Tolle in Stillness Speaks.

Home again!

We drove home last evening and then to Toronto this morning where I had a temporary filling put in my chipped tooth while Dave went to The Royal Ontario Museum (R.O.M.) (http://www.rom.on.ca/).

Then it was off to my favourite health food store, The Big Carrot (http://www.thebigcarrot.ca/) located at 348 Danforth Ave. It's a must if you're ever visiting T.O. It is an organic whole food store with an organic juice bar, a cafe, and a dispensary. It was great to see that they have an entire shelf of books on raw/living foods and a multitude of Echkart Tolle cd's. I bought kale, collard greens, mustard greens, zucchini, pears, apples, pomegranate, hemp nuts and sunflower seeds.

Then, we went to Rawlicious (http://www.rawlicious.ca/), our favourite raw food restaurant in Toronto located at 3092 Dundas Street West to see our friends. We had an absolutely divine tomato pizza with fresh rosemary and garlic. So good... their food just keeps getting better and better!

The Wisdom and Magic of Eckhart Tolle at Findhorn

I've been reading, listening to and watching Eckhart Tolle's Findhorn Retreat (http://eckharttolle.com/store/index.php?p=product&id=31&parent=5), a very beautiful and inspirational book that comes with two dvd's wherein Eckhart Tolle gently guides one inwards towards a rediscovery of the Self and All that Was, Is and Ever Shall Be. Findhorn is a spiritual community on the leading edge of global and spiritual transformation in Northern Scotland and this particular book and dvd set are an account of an extraordinary retreat that Eckhart Tolle conducted there with a group of three hundred people in the Spring of 2004. An electronic audio book version of the retreat is available for download via the Internet from The Oakville Public Library at http://librariesonthego.library.on.ca/56FA193F-CDFE-48BA-BA13-D6C3510C2355/10/310/en/ContentDetails.htm?ID=E7C1241C-C32D-47FF-9390-84A712C923E6.
p.s. I chipped a tooth last evening eating raw almonds so we're now thinking of driving home with our rental car for a week or two until our vehicle is repaired.

Oh deer...

Last night as we were driving south on I-79 through Pennsylvania,I hit a deer when it suddenly ran from the ditch in front of our vehicle. Traffic was reasonably heavy. I don't know what I could have done differently. Apparently this is mating season and a regular occurance here. Dave spotted twenty more by the side of the road as we rode to a motel in a tow truck. I feel very sad for the beautiful creature whom I obviously caused great pain. Life.
We're now in a motel which I describe as having a Zen look about it. Smile. Our vehicle is in a body shop. We're waiting to speak with the adjuster and are considering renting a van for a month while our vehicle is repaired. We haven't as yet made any decisions.
I have to laugh though because I'm here with 'my guys' (i.e. Dave and 'Rusty') and surrounded by all my favourite books, cd's, dvd's and food. Is it obvious that I've been reading the work of Byron Katie? http://byronkatie.com/

We're off...

With the car packed full, we're off! I'll post again once we're in Florida.
